June 13, 2025

As first announced at Ozwater25 in Adelaide, Neil Palmer has been honoured with the Exceptional Service Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Australian Water Association.

Adelaide, Australia - Neil Palmer, Chief Technical Officer at Osmoflo, has been awarded a prestigious Exceptional Service Award by the Australian Water Association (AWA). This recognition celebrates his exceptional leadership and enduring commitment to the Australian Water Association in advancing water management practices in Australia.

The Exceptional Service Award was announced at the recent President’s Dinner during the AWA’s Ozwater Conference, and highlights individuals who have demonstrated sustained service to the Association in terms of mentoring, training, organisational support and service at the highest levels in South Australia, nationally and internationally.

With over 45 years of experience in the Australian water industry, Mr. Palmer has made significant contributions across various sectors, including government, private industry, and research. His tenure includes roles at the South Australian Engineering and Water Supply Department (now SA Water), the Fiji Public Works Department, the South Australian EPA, United Utilities Australia (now Trility), the National Centre of Excellence in Desalination Australia, Tonkin Consulting, and Osmoflo. Notably, he served as the Principal Water Engineer at Tonkin Consulting, where he was instrumental in the development of the Northern Adelaide Irrigation Scheme, a project that aimed to enhance sustainable water use in the region.

In 2015, Mr. Palmer was recognized as the number one water industry leader globally by World Water International Magazine, underscoring his influence and dedication to the field.

Mr. Palmer's leadership continues to inspire innovation and excellence in water management, reinforcing his legacy as a pivotal figure in Australia's water industry.

“Since 1982 it has been a great pleasure to serve the AWA. It is an excellent organisation. It has been an honour and also a lot of fun to work with respected colleagues and fellow enthusiasts to help in some small way to advance the Australian Water Industry” commented Neil.

Osmoflo's CEO Carmine Ciccocioppo also shared: “We are thrilled to see Neil’s exceptional career and service to the AWA and to the Australian water sector recognised in such an important way. With over 4 decades of involvement across both government and private sector roles, Neil is widely regarded as one of the most experienced and highly respected practitioners in the Australian water industry and, indeed, within the global desalination sector. Neil continues to give so much back to the sector through mentoring, expert technical advice and also through his ongoing service to AWA, and this award caps off what will undoubtedly be an impressive and enduring legacy.”
