Reverse Osmosis, Microfiltration and Osmoflo Brine Squeezer Technology
Narrabri, New South Wales, Australia
Challenge Longstanding client Santos required a turnkey solution to treat water at their Leewood site, located near Narrabri, New South Wales. This is for the Narrabri Gas Project which once developed, could supply up to half of the natural gas used by NSW homes, small businesses, major industries and electricity generators every day. It is planned that this project will bring substantial economic benefits to Narrabri and the region.
Solution In delivering the Water Treatment Plant for Leewood Phase 2, Osmoflo have provided a turnkey solution to Santos’ water requirements to treat produced water from the site. This solution included:
Osmoflo’s patented Brine Squeezer technology (OBS) was utilised for this project, producing a highly concentrated brine stream to minimise the membrane reject volume.
This proprietary and unique process was developed in-house by Osmoflo’s research and development team. The OBS operates at much higher pressures than seawater desalination and includes innovative membrane fouling and scaling mitigation techniques practiced for over 25 years at Osmoflo.
Result The water treatment plant, processing up to 1,500 m3/day, enables Santos to continue it’s development program whilst providing opportunities for beneficial reuse of the produced formation water as part of their appraisal and exploration programs. The water is currently held in state of the art storage facilities located 25 kilometers south of Narrabri.
