Challenge High purity water is vital to Visy's operation. So when a combination of circumstances resulted in a situation in which the availability of high purity water was insufficient to maintain production requirements, cutbacks or even temporary plant shut-down appeared to be inevitable. Visy's staff identified that additional reverse osmosis capacity was urgently required to resolve the problem and provide sufficient high purity water to keep production on track. With the Easter long weekend looming, sourcing and installing this equipment intime appeared to be an all but impossible challenge.

Solution Visy approached Osmoflo, which maintains a rental fleet of container-mounted reverse osmosis plants in readiness for rapid mobilisation. First of all a review of water quality was quickly undertaken to ensure selection of a rental plant that is most suited to site requirements. Then technical staff then carried out testing and much of the pre-commissioning work prior to the plant's departure from Osmoflo's South Australian desalination facility to the Tumut site. Liaison with Visy personnel ensured essential site works were underway to required specifications. Within hours the rental plant was on its way, arriving at Tumut the following morning (Easter Friday) where technical service engineers from Osmoflo's New South Wales office completed installation and handover later that day.

Result Rental fleet availability combined with Osmoflo's rapid mobilisation processes made it possible for Visy's emergency requirements to be met and a plant delivered on site within 24 hours of receipt of purchase order. Visy's critical water shortage was resolved without any disruption to production targets.

Visy's mill at Tumut is one of it's newest facilities, processing new plantation pine for kraft pulp and paper.
