Challenge Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd is providing additional accommodation at Wickham to support its operations at Port Lambert and is funding the new wastewater treatment plant which has to be capable of providing high quality reuse to irrigate nearby Wickham park and public open spaces. As well as being able to provide the complete turnkey services, a key challenge was to provide the right technical solution in terms of required effluent quality and other regulatory requirements at an acceptable cost in terms of both capital and on-going operations costs. Ciritical in these considerations was the the need to address the problems caused by algal growth in facultative lagoons.

Solution The Pentair High Solids technology is currently being installed at the two other Water Corporation facilities in this remote area of WA. Water Corporation will therefore have consistency across a number of regional wastewater plants and greater certainly on long term plant performance and reliability.

Result Provided a turnkey service to the client, involving civil and wastewater. Following completion and commissioning the treatment plant will be handed over to WA Water Corporation.

Hamersley Iron operates nine mines in Western Australia, including three mines in joint ventures.
